The X Games, having reduced the word extreme to a single letter ,X. The X team is now working with everyone’s childhood favorite, Hot Wheels. Together they are performing amazing stunts on four full sized wheels.
In their latest exploit, the X Games and Hot Wheels are claiming the world record for driving the first simultaneous double loop, the Hot Wheels Double Loop Dare is taking childhood imagination and making the insanity real.
The 66 foot high loops were modeled on Mattel’s Hot Wheels Double Dare Snare toy racetrack set. Re-engineered and scaled up to deal with the forces of a full sized rally cars hitting the loop at 52 mph. Hitting with 7 g’s of force during the loop the drivers have trained to deal with the black out inducing g forces. Clenching their legs and extremities so that it feels as if their eye balls will pop out, they must fight to remain conscious.
Team Hot Wheels drivers, Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy set the Guinness World Record racing two vehicles through a six-story double vertical loop at the opening of the 2012 X Games in Los Angeles, now that’s how you open a major games event.
“That was pretty hardcore: the 7 Gs … I almost felt my chin hit my lap, I think, in the loop,” Foust said after finishing the stunt in the Team Yellow car. “I felt like I was in a toy.”
“That was unbelievable,” Tracy said after finishing first through the loop in the Team Green car and making the jump into the finish ahead of Foust. “I tell you what, I’m at a loss for words. That was absolutely the coolest thing I’ve ever done. It was a handful trying to land it and get it slowed down. I knew Tanner was right behind me and I was just hoping we weren’t going to tangle before we got to the end.”
With their own NASA engineer overseeing construction and with zero need for computer generated graphics the X Games team and Hot Wheels have produced a small dose of incredible.
