Britain’s Government has announced yesterday that the first trials of driverless cars will begin on British roads in 2015. The trial will initially be limited to a small number of roads but this will stretch out to cover 3 cities during the three year trial.
Most of the major auto manufacturers are on-board with cars being developed by Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Vauxhall, Volkswagen and Honda.
Guided by a combination of radar, lasers, cameras and sat nav the British government hopes to see packs of autonomous cars traveling together. Initially the cars are all expected to have a manual override with the normal driving equipment in place.
