Like a classic Hollywood blockbuster following on from a legend can sometimes be difficult. Many have said that the Nexus brand peaked with the third generation, the Samsung Nexus. While the LG Nexus 4 was technically a great phone many supply issues hampered sales. Now Google is back, keen to bring the Nexus name back into the limelight, for all of the right reasons.

Google is rumoured to be working with a number of manufacturers at the moment in order to bring the Nexus 5 to life, and yes LG is once again amongst the manufacturers being consulted. Internally the phone has been given the designation ‘Megalodon’, everyone else will call it Nexus 5, A Good Day To Phone Harder.

Working harder than a New York cop in Moscow Google is aiming to release the new Nexus in October. Keeping a new Nexus appearing every year can’t be easy.

The rumoured spec sheet (from LG) points to a top end super phone; if it turns out to be the Nexus 5 then Google will have gadget lovers swooning. Up front will be a 5.2 inch OLED display capable of full 1080p HD resolution. The incredible display will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU clocked at 2.3GHz. 3GB of low power DDR3 RAM will give the latest version of Android plenty of room to multi-task in. Storage will range from 16 to 64GB depending on model.

The Nexus camera is said to be receiving a major overhaul. The rear-facing 16MP camera by OmniVision is able to record 4K video at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps. A 2.1MP front facing camera is included to keep an eye on you, when you’re not video conferencing.

3,300mAh battery should keep this uber smart phone running all day. Integrated DVB-T/ATSC antenna allows you to tune in your local digital TV stations.

The specifications listed would be better suited to the next generation LG G super phone, don’t be surprised if LG releases that phone in the second half of 2013. How much of this will make it into the Nexus 5 is still unknown. The technology that can be squeezed into a mid range smart phone is improving every day; wait long enough and the above specs will appear in a Nexus, maybe by Nexus X.
