Monitors, our window into our online lives are evolving. LG’s latest launch party has introduced the world to their latest generation IPS panel, the IPS7 series.
LG have taken the technological shoe horn to their line of premium desktop monitors, always aiming to fit more features in than ever before. Off to a spectacular start LG has included the latest generation IPS panel that ensures extreme color accuracy, wide viewing angles and fast 5ms response times.
LG have been working hard on the aesthetics of their TV’s and Monitors, it shows, the IPS7 range look good. Is it irony that such a visual device as a monitor often receives very little aesthetic design input, being a cheap commodity that corner often gets cut. The super slim 1.2mm bezel, thin 14mm profile and sleek stand keeps the IPS7’s looking good.
Two models will be available post launch party, the 23-inch IPS237L, and the 27-inch IPS277L. Both models feature 1920 x 1080 native resolution, 5 ms response time and 250 cd/m² brightness, no word on pricing or world wide availability.
The usual assortment of ports (HDMI, DVI, Audio) are joined by MHL (mobile high-definition link),the latest interface allowing smartphones, tablets, and cameras to output directly to the monitor.
“By combining CINEMA SCREEN Design and MHL functionality with the industry’s leading IPS technology, the IPS7 series is able to offer stunning design and performance,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of the IT Business Unit of the LG Home Entertainment Company. “With the rapid growth in the number of mobile smart devices such as smartphones and tablets, the availability of content has greatly expanded. LG’s IPS7 expands the user experience, enabling viewers to take full advantage of this content-rich environment.”
The IPS7 series uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels rather than conventional Twisted Nematic (TN) technology found in most monitors. This brings advantages in picture quality and color consistency, letting users enjoy the most vivid and true-to-life colors around.
IPS panels also excel under a wider range of viewing angles when compared to their TN counterpart. Users can play games or watch videos while sitting, standing or lying down without experiencing any color shift or distortion.
The IPS7 series produces an incredibly smooth viewing experience, without the blur that often accompanies rapid motion in action scenes, sports and video games. This means less stress on the eyes, even when using the monitor for an extended period of time. With improved response times when viewing motion pictures, users can enjoy the benefit of the smoothest entertainment experience around.
A convenient color calibration function is included to help reproduce the most accurate, lifelike colors. The IPS7 series comes with LG’s own software for simplifying the calibration process for professionals, such as photographers and graphic designers.
The IPS revolution continues, LG has introduced what should be a cheaper alternative to the high end IPS panels from Dell and HP, while still offering all of the IPS advantages and more.
