The Internets rumour mill has been steadily churning out whispers of a new NVIDIA Shield TV. In all honesty these rumours have been more wish and hope than reality, until now. This week eagle eyed shoppers noticed something new on Amazon, the Shield TV Pro.

Amazon it seems had briefly posted a listing for NVIDIA’s 4K Android streamer, producing the best kind of spoiler. Before Amazon had a chance to take down the page we learned that the Shield TV Pro will be based on the upgraded Tegra X1+, which should provide a 25% boost in horsepower. Also new to the Shield is Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus. Under the hood there is 3GB of RAM and 16GB if SSD storage. Around the back HDMI 2.0, two USB 3.0 and Gigabit ethernet provide space to connect the Shield.

The remote has also seen a complete revamp. The new remote now has enough buttons to justify the words ‘control’ and ‘remote’. The Lost Remote locator function may be pure genius but the rest of the functions; volume, power, stop etc finally give the Shield a proper functioning remote.

The new Shield TV Pro should be released on October 28, the price has increased from $179 USD to $199 USD. The current model isn’t disappearing but will receive a face lift, converting from its compact flat dimensions into a tubular Apple like device.
