The smartphone world is currently divided, when buying a smartphone consumers are faced with a tough decision, chosing between a speedy processor or speedy internet (4G/LTE). This is being driven by the lack of a chipset that combines both. Thankfully this awkward situation is about to change thanks to the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, the Snapdragon S4 Pro.
A number of mobile phones using the brand new silicon are already working their way through production lines around the world, expected to appear as soon as next month.
New to the smartphone market Xiaomi have burst onto the smartphone scene with two smartphone; the Mi-One released last year and the soon to be release Mi-Two based on the new Qualcomm silicon. Both phones are said to rival the best of the competition from HTC and Samsung while not asking premium brand prices.
LG are aiming to beat Xiaomi to market with a quad core / 4G phone, pulling all the stops to be the first to release a phone based on the new silicon. In the process adding a new top end phone to their range, say hello to our new little friend, the Optimus G.
The Optimus G is hunting for the top guns in the smartphone world, Apple and Samsung watch out. The rumored specifications include a 4.7inch HD-IPS LCD display, 13 megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM and the brand new Snapdragon s4 Pro chipset (APQ8064 + MDM9615 3G/LTE base-band chip). LG’s decision busting phone should be released September 2012.
Rumors have also been circulating regarding the source of Google’s next generation Nexus smartphone, (due before Christmas), this time round Google has chosen to partner with LG and Sony. A partnership that opens up the interesting possibility that the new Nexus may be based on LG’s implementation of the new Snapdragon, leapfrogging the Galaxy 3 and iPhone 5.
Smartphones are in a transition period, a period that is coming to an end. The next generation promises that we can have it all when choosing our next smartphone. Finally a compromise free generation of smartphone appears on the horizon.
