Real time strategy fans rejoice, one of the all time classic RTS games could be returning to the PC for your gaming pleasure. Command & Conquer is universally loved as one of the greatest RTS games of all time and a reboot may be in the works. EA game production manager Jim Vessella mentioned this weekend that EA have special plans for the franchise on its 25th anniversary. The original Command & Conquer blew peoples minds when it was first released on the 31st of August 1995. Now with its 25th birthday fast approaching the PC gaming community is waiting with bated breath to see what EA has in store.
Everything we know so far has come from Vessella who has been commenting via Reddit. Vessella said “Following the reveal of Rivals, we heard you loud and clear: the Command & Conquer community also wants to see the franchise return to PC. And as a fan of C&C for over 20 years, I couldn’t agree more. With that in mind we’ve been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary.”
Official announcements are thin on the ground but Vessella has mentioned that the new rebooted C&C won’t have micro-transactions and his comments are being interpreted to infer that there may be more than one title planned for remastering.
It may be a year away but here at Highpants we can’t wait to see one of our all-time favourite games making a come-back. Can EA do this classic justice? Will the new C&C have the same time warping effects as the original, with the ability make night turn to day in the blink of an eye? Will there ever be enough Tiberium in the world? Only time will tell but we can’t wait.
