Due for release in 2020 Elon Musk’s second-generation Roadster is still a couple of years away from hitting the road but it already has chins wagging. The king of the funny wagging chins Jay Leno recently experienced the insane acceleration that 10,000-foot pounds of torque can produce, and his reaction was priceless. Suffice as to say he went from curious to wanting one in under 1.9 seconds.
Musk has made it clear that he is aiming to produce the fastest car in the world, no easy target in this car mad world but the new Roadster might just have the power to take the title. From a standing start this electric monster will accelerate to 100 kph in 1.9 seconds so this record is safely within its grasp. In fact, this is fast enough to keep pace with superbikes off the line. Musk is claiming the Roadster will keep accelerating all the way up to 255 mph / 410 kph. There are only a handful of production cars in the world capable of generating these kinds of numbers and they all cost many times more than the Roadsters $200,000 USD asking price. It has looks, power and an interior straight out of a sci-fi movie, if it can live up to the claimed 650-mile range (1045 K’s) then this may just be the electric car that kills off the gasoline guzzler once and for all.
Presented for your viewing pleasure are the latest examples of expletive generating acceleration, the relentless acceleration of pure electric power. Sit back, relax and prepare to be amazed by the silent electric streak.
