Music brings out the creativity in us all, not only the creation of music itself but also the instruments we use to create that music. Here at Byte Chronicles one of our favourite unusual instruments for making music is the floppy drive orchestra. This highly unusual orchestra consists of an ensemble of abandon computer hardware. A nostalgic musical flashback to the computer hardware from years gone by, hardware repurposed for their mechanical noises that are played in harmony to produce chuckle inducing music.
In the early days of the Floppy drive orchestra the instruments consisted of a handful of 3.5 inch floppy drives strung together to make fabulously lo-fi renditions of our favourite tunes. Over time the number of drives in the orchestra’s grew and other types of abandoned hardware were auditioned and added to the line-up.
