The greatest device for living vicariously is about to receive an upgrade, the new little camera that can go anywhere is the Hero 4, the smoothest Hero yet.
The midyear refresh should introduce full 4K 30fps shooting and extreme 240fps HD slow-motion options to the new Hero. Keeping it under 100grams in weight the Hero 4 keeps the good stuff the same while improving the rest, mainly the shooting options.
Presented for your viewing pleasure are details of the new Hero 4 along with three of the most spectacular video’s produced using the little action camera. Presented in celebration of the talented individuals taking this little wonder camera to some mind blowing places. Sit back, relax and let the action begin.
While the GoPro Hero 4 will be more evolution than revolution there is still enough new goodness here to keep people buying them by the briefcase full, along with briefcases full of accessories.
The upgrade seems to have touched most parts of the Hero 4. The new lens and 13-megapixel sensor have been tuned for better night shots and higher frame rates. A new processor ups the frame rate options even further, taking the GoPro squarely into 4K territory. 4K recordings now happen at 30fps as compared to the 3+’s 15fps at 4K. 1080p can shoot up to 120fps and 720p can now record at the slow motion king of 240fps.
The Hero 4 introduces a number of software improvements including Multi-exposure, HDR shooting modes and image stabilization. Standard interfaces include USB, HDMI and Wireless.
Set for July 2014 release the Hero 4 will slot in at the top of the GoPro heap, this should see it sell for $349 USD, while the 3+ should drop under the $300 mark, becoming the mid range Hero, still a spectacular camera.
The Hero 4 has a lot of weight on its little shoulders; expectations are high if only because everyone loves the little guy so much. Only time will tell if the specs on paper live up to the Hero name, bring on July.
