While the big name brands of Über gaming laptops Alienware, Envy, ASUS and Razer, were busy with post-Christmas and CES celebrations Origin PC snuck up and stole the crown. The crown for the Über gaming laptop now sits squarely on the Origin PC’s EON17-X. Not willing to rest on their laurels Origin have upgraded the EON17-X which now includes a 3D capable display, creating a new model in the process, the EON17-X3D. The EON17-X took the title, the new 3D model now secures it for Origin.
The secret to Origins advantage is buried deep inside the generously proportioned – 2.2 inches thick – EON 17-X, a complete X79 motherboard. This is the latest and greatest Intel chipset motherboard used by all of the fastest desktop machines and adds weight to the term desktop replacement laptop. Using the X79 allows Origin to include Intel’s latest performance CPU’s including the 3.3Ghz 6 core beast that is the Intel Core i7-3960X. Add to this 2 NVIDIA 580M GPU’s running in tandem using SLI along with the ability to install up to 32GB of RAM and you quickly see why this EON17-X is the new Über King.
Florida based Origin PC’s has another advantage over the competition, the customization options for their laptops go above and beyond the norm. Not only are the specifications for the laptop up for selection but the colour and design for the case of the laptop is customizable. Need a laptop with black laptop with red flames or a red laptop with orange flames and they have you covered. In all seriousness not only are the internals yours to select but also the external finish.
The little touches also helped the 17-X steal the crown. No Über laptop can be considered king without an illuminated keyboard, The 17-X takes this a step further by including a 2 zone lighting system with seven colour options. Storage also an essential, is well covered with three drive bays able to accommodate 3TB of storage. The full Hi-Def 1920 x 1080 LED display rounds out the standard equipment.
There is a price to pay for this much power, as with all things. All of this technology weighs down the EON17-X, at 5.4 kilograms the EON is more transportable than it is portable. Electrical power is also a major requirement for an Über laptop, the 17-X is no exception, the full spec’d out 17-X requires 2 x 300 watt power packs to be connected to the two included power sockets, one on each side. The ultimate price is of course financial, the 17-X will set you back $US3159 for the base model, expensive but no more costly than the other competitors for Über Gaming laptop.
Origin have managed to introduce a little shock and awesome to the Über gaming laptop market, beating the market leaders at their own game, outrageously powerful computers in a relatively small space. The new king has been crowned, long live the king the Origin EON1-X3D.
