Nissan, makers of Japan’s super car, the GT-R, have added a second super car to their catalog, the Juke-R. Start saving now as the super hot hatch is going into limited production.
To wet the worlds appetite and to celebrate the release of this pocket sized piece of insanity Nissan has released a number of hand drawn artists concepts along with a new a new preview video filmed in Dubai.
Bursting onto the motorsports scene in January the Juke-R was seen for the first time in the lead up to the Dubai 24 hour classic. Combining the heart of a GT-R, twin turbo V6 and 4WD transmission, with the body of a city car the Juke-R instantly caught the public’s attention. Intended to be a concept car only, Nissan was forced to rethink the cars status after an incredible response to the first Juke-R’s appearance.
Gareth Dunsmore, European marketing chief for the Juke “The Juke-R was originally intended as a one-off concept to marry two of Nissan’s most innovative models. But the reaction we had to the car in Dubai was amazing–people were making offers for the original on the street.”
Now, the Juke-R is entering production, initially in a very limited short production run followed by production on a build-to-order basis.
Based on the Micra platform the ordinary Juke is a city car with attitude, the Juke-R is a city car with insane amounts of attitude. Able to outperform super cars that are foolish enough to challenge the mini super car.
The production version of the radical Juke-R has changed little from original concept car. The one exception being the engine which has now been upgraded to the 2013 GT-R spec, increasing the horsepower from 485bhp to 545bhp. See the original article ‘Nissan’s Wonder Twins’ for the full background story.
Even more incredible than the Juke-R’s spec is the price tag, $580,0000. This most expensive Nissan ever produced.
Disappointingly Australian Nissan fans are still Jukeless, Nissan Australia magnanimously decided on behalf of every Australian that we don’t want the very cool Juke, let alone the insane Juke-R.
Nissan Australia spokesman Jeff Fisher was quoted as saying “We’re having another look at Juke. But there is no point in bringing the Juke-R if it’s not relevant to what we’re doing,” Here at Highpants we thought his job was to sell people the cars but that may be naive.
Proving that dreams can come true Nissan has created far more than the hottest of hot hatches, they have created the real life dream car for a whole new generation, the PlayStation generation.
Faster than a Ferrari, better looking than a Bugatti and completely insane. The Juke-R, a pocket rocket of immensely cool proportions.
